Knee
Case 3:
19 year old Chinese male with recurrent dislocation of both patella. He was unable to cope with training in NS. The recurrent episodes of patella dislocation were associated with pain and swelling of both knees. The x-ray below shows subluxation of both the patella. Physiotherapy did not resolve the symptoms.

He underwent surgery to realign the patella. This consists of arthroscopic lateral release, placation of the soft tissues medially (inner aspect of the patella ) and transfer of the tibial tubercle. The transferred tibial tubercle is fixed with screws as shown in figures 3 and 4.
Intraoperatively under general anaesthesia the patella was easily dislocatable as shown in figure 5. The patient was on physiotherapy after surgery and recovered well and regained his range of motion. The scars from the surgery and the range of motion are shown in figures 6 and 7.
